February 15, 2001
We recycle to conserve resources and to create new materials balances socially, not to slow the tendency to disorder which from one perspective, recycling nonetheless decelerates. We also recycle to bring environmental and (very internationally diverse) economic procreative and recreative abilities into implementability despite forces of self-interest, monopolization of resources, and non-punitive models of extending the social contract. But this is way outside physics, drawing on ecology, sociology, economics, politics, and ultimately, philosophy.
We view life as precious, not molecules.
