The answer is that no decomposition statistics are meaningful and they are at best estimates and at worst industry propaganda. Polystyrene (styrofoam) degrades chemically very slowly and physically (into smaller pieces) more quickly. But unless manufactured to degrade which none of this plastic in use in the US is, it isn't a meaningful comparison.
