PET vs. PETE?

Subject: PET vs. PETE?

Is a company required to use the recycle symbol for a PETE bottle if it uses that type of bottle? Also, suppose that company started using the symbol in its bottles when it was still known as PET -- would it be required to change its molds to say PETE under the chasing arrows rather than PET?
