Subject: Re: How to recycle textiles

Feb 27/97

Your question regarding textiles is sufficiently involved that a request via Internet is not going to get you anything that will do the topic justice.

Textiles are currently more reused than recycled and more exported than domestically marketed.

The markets for these things are high end to low end, high end being new clothing, high grade papers, filters, cushioning, bedding and low end being wiping cloths, sponges, insulation, etc.

The textile recycling organizations have far more information and you should contact all of them:

Bueau International de la recuperation
Rue du Lombard, Boite 14
B-100 Brussels, Belgium

Council for Textile Recycling
7910 Woodmont Ave.
Bethesda, MD 20814

Reclamation Assn.
16 High St.
Bramtton, Huntington
Cambridgeshire, England PE1 8TU

Export procedures can be learned from:

U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service, Dept. of Commerce
Export Promotion Services 202-482-2432 and 482-4767.

and from its regional affiliates.
