Dear Whit Kincaid,

[I'm not sure if this is a personal or firm name]:

In the credit where credit is due dept. a study of PET economic trends was conducted in Summer, 1993 by Jill Kauffman Johnson, US EPA-New England's SWITZER FELLOW that summer.
Her paper Analysis of Virgin and Recycled Polyethylene Resins will probably answer a part of the time period of your inquiry.
Her coverage is 1987-93.

Contemporarily, from 1996-97, a longer trend continues in the declinde of clear PET prices, going from 7 cents to 4.x cents per pound during that period. On the other hand, the collection costs for PET bottles is in the range of $1K/ton and for processing it costs about $180 per ton.
